EN 1731 covers mesh eye and face protectors. Their advantage in forestry work is obvious: mesh does not fog, does not collect droplets and lets air through freely, which matters over a long physical shift.
Limitations
- No protection against liquids, gases, fine dust or molten metal.
- No protection against high-speed fine particles — they pass straight through the mesh.
- Reduces light transmission; vision suffers in poor lighting.

In forestry a mesh visor is normally mounted on a helmet together with ear defenders — helmet to EN 397, hearing to EN 352-3, face to EN 1731. All three must be compatible and assessed as an assembly.
