EN 175 covers not the filter but the structure that holds it: the welding helmet, hand shield, face shield or goggle. The standard requires that structure to protect against flame, hot particles, foreign bodies and ultraviolet radiation, and to be electrically insulating.

A complete system has two certified parts: the housing to EN 175 and the filter to EN 169 (fixed shade) or EN 379 (automatic). Both markings must be durably applied and both must suit the process being welded.
