Most of what a rescue crew does is not firefighting — it is road-traffic collisions, collapses, industrial incidents and confined-space entry. EN 16473 defines the helmet for that work.
- Impact protection from all directions, with a secure retention system that keeps the helmet in place when the wearer is bent over or inverted.
- Integrated face shield and eye protection against glass fragments and hydraulic tools.
- Mounting points for work lighting and communications.
Compared with EN 443 the thermal requirements are reduced, while the mechanical and ergonomic requirements are raised — the helmet has to be workable in cramped, awkward positions.
