EN 381-7 set the requirements for chainsaw protective gloves. Its role is now filled by EN ISO 11393-4.
Why only the left hand
In the normal grip the left hand is on the front handle, directly in the path of the chain; the right is on the rear handle, behind it. The protective fibre pack is therefore normally fitted only to the back of the left glove — which keeps weight down and preserves dexterity.
The glove should also meet EN 388 for mechanical resistance and, ideally, provide good grip in the wet — in forestry a glove is nearly always wet.
