EN 381-5 was the European standard for chainsaw leg protection. Its main contribution was the design-type system (Types A, B and C), which passed unchanged into EN ISO 11393-2 and is still in use today.

- Front protection — for ground work
- Type B
- Type A plus the inside of the left leg
- Type C
- Full wrap-around protection — for arboriculture
New certification is now issued to EN ISO 11393-2. Trousers marked only EN 381-5 may still be serviceable if visually sound and not too many years old — but look for EN ISO 11393 when buying.
