EN 405 combines two worlds: the convenience of a disposable respirator with the capability of a gas filter. The whole facepiece is made of filtering material with an activated-carbon layer, and the entire mask is discarded when exhausted.
Marking
The marking starts with FF (filtering facepiece), followed by the gas type and class and often a particle class too — FFA1P2 or FFABEK1P3, for example.
Typical use
- Painting and lacquering in small volumes.
- Short exposures to adhesives, solvents and organic compounds.
- Agriculture — pesticide spraying, often with an A1P2 combination.
The limitation: EN 405 respirators are for low concentrations only (class 1) and their capacity is limited. For regular, intensive or high-concentration work an elastomeric mask with replaceable filters (EN 140 + EN 14387) is both safer and cheaper.
